It feels like little pieces of glass breaking off into your skin.

Its going to be very uncomfortable especially in the location you've decided on....Any place that is more bony is going to be more painful than a fleshier fattier part of the body.
Its a sharp pain that I describe as kind of like taking the needle and dragging it around to tear your skin apart. The black outline is more uncomfortable than the colored parts (although don't kid yourself, they're both painful) At some point during your tattoo you will probably notice that the pain is more numbing.
If you really want to get a tattoo you need to be prepared for the fact that IT WILL HURT. People who tell you otherwise think they are doing you a favor by not trying to scare you out of it but I think you should be prepared. Make sure you go some place reputable and even though they are used to people being scared their first time, don't hesitate to talk it over with them. And don't worry....I suspect you probably will cry if you do indeed have a low tolerance for pain but a lot of people do.....they see that all the time too.
Good Luck

I've gotten three tattoos. The last one being on top of my foot, and my tattoo artist told me that the wrist and the top of the foot feel about the same.
I'm not going to lie, it hurt. But like someone else mentioned before, you go into a "zone." It is like your body says "ok, i'm in pain, i'm going to deal with it." Just remember to breath.....think about why your getting this tattoo and how you will love it in the end, because you will love it!
Also don't take Advil, or any kind of headache, muscle relaxers, beforehand. They make you sign a form, piercing or tattoos, that you are not on any kind of "blood thinners." Advil is in these categories. They make you bleed a lot easier, causing you to get dizzy and faint.
Just remember, you will be find. Good luck!

You've chosen a painful area! The pain is much like a bee sting, only it continues. I found when I had mind done I stayed on the verge, saying "if it gets any worse I'm not going to be able to take it"...but I sort of went into a zone and just stayed there while it was being done.

I recently got a tatto on my wrist, dont worry urself it doesnt hurt as bad as it seems. Before u know it it will be over and the end result will be nice. it feels like a hot pen, not that it burns just stings a little, think about something that makes u happy or bring someone along to hold ur hand and talk to.

be sure to talk to the person doing your tattoo about your pain tolerance and usually they are very helpfull. Let them know if you need a break if the pain is bothering you. Its more of a stinging feeling but very annoying!

When I got my tattoo on the top of my wrist it reminded me of being snapped with a rubber band repeatedly. Not bad at all.

It's no worse than playing with a teething puppy for the outline and I didn't feel my colored parts at all, just a little pressure. After it is done it feels a little like a sunburn for a couple hours.
