Is not the "Our Father." the main prayer we are supposed to say because it gives our states our *submission unto God..as in "thy will be done on Earth as it is unto Heaven". I am interested in hearing the prayers you as a Christian say even if it is is the same or different than the "Our Father." in which Jesus in the New Testament told us how to pray.

Does it matter what you say to yourself when you want something?

Whether it's "Our Father" or "Flying wonton swirl dive kick" I'm sure nothing is going to happen.

The "Our Father" is a pattern for a prayer.. it is not that we should pray that exactly, but it is fine if we do. You might observe all the other prayers throughout the Bible and the one Jesus prayed in John 17.
I follow a similar pattern sometimes, most of the time I give Him praise and adoration, then confession and ask for Him to search my heart, my motives, thanksgiving and gratitude check, then I invite the Holy Spirit to take over my day, then if I have any supplication I do that and then I wait...
I spend some time in silence in order to hear Him speak to my heart.
Sometimes I ask for the eyes of my understanding to be opened when reading the Bible.
Sometimes I do the "God is good, God is great..." for our meal. (Not always)
My prayers are highly varied, almost always spontaneous, and once in a while I use prayer cards or a previously scripted prayer.

I know that we are not suppose to use vain repetition and we are to pray to the Father in Jesus name. Many pray Dear Jesus but I think that is not correct. Some people seem to have a real gift for audible prayer and are a blessing to those that hear. For me it seems that my mind is always in conversation with God so formal prayer is not my gift. I just know that I love and cherish Him and appreciate everything He has done in my life. I am happy for the bad times as that has been my greatest time of learning and leaning on Him for comfort. The good times are terrific also. He gives me peace, joy and love...have a happy and blessed day everyone...Mmm

Jesus told us to pray in this manner; not necessarily to pray these words. Our prayers are supposed to contain all the aspects of the Lord's Prayer; submission, worship, reverence, acknowledgement, supplication, intercession, and confession. But elsewhere in the Bible it tells us to pray "in Jesus name". If you will notice, the Lord's Prayer does not do this. It also tells us not to pray with vain repetitions. Don't you think God gets tired of hearing the same prayer over and over again? If a person is a child of God, I think God looks forward to when we talk to Him in a truthful, sincere, natural way. There is no main prayer we must say, just so we pray.

Jesus' model prayer applies differently now than when he taught it. Jesus challenged the people of his time to be REAL in their prayers and NOT to REPEAT or memorize prayers.

THEN, Jesus prayed "your kingdom come" which doesn't work for us the same as it did then. The kingdom HAS come. (see Mark 9:1 And he said to them, “I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”) This means we are no longer looking forward to the kingdom, but LIVING IN IT.

Colossians 1:9
1 James 5:14
a. to know His will
1 Timothy 5:8
a. Jesus is our Mediator between man and God.

Pray TO the Father, THROUGH Jesus in His name, BY the Holy Spirit.
I will, at times, pray in tongues (Rom. 8:26-28), since we ought not know how to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us when we pray in tongues.

My prayers tend to be more informal, conversational prayers. Sometimes I pray to "the Father" sometimes to Jesus.

When I pray, I just talk to God, if I include his word in my prayer, it would be fitting for whatever is on my mind that day. To say ritual prayers over and over to just be saying them is not really having conversation with God. It should be conversation from your heart.

I pray without ceasing, as in conversational prayer throughout the day. We are after all, His children, and I do call Him Father.
