There are over 950 billionairs around the globe, according to Forbes Magazine. Wouldn't it be interesting if these Billionairs chipped out a million a piece, and invest it in the earth, so to speak? Would it be a good start towards the future?

Banana: They already tax the poor to the fullest extent. And as a matter of fact, WE BUILD OUR AMERICA and even pay for it. Your "State of the Art" stadiums. Convention Centers. Government buildings. And you know HOW it's done? Gambling. Pull tab machines. Slot machines (Certain states.) Don't EVER dog the poor. Especially if you've NEVER been there.

Misunderstanding: Greed is a factor in the issue of 950 million (G or T) A billionair would be leery of that amount in somebodies power. But understand this is from their own people.

Great idea! Unfortunately, "Earth" is not a stock market option.

Yes, it would be interesting, but would accomplish virtually nothing.

Even assuming there are 950 billionaires (there aren't), 950 million is a pittance compared to the size of the world economy. It is merely 0.00146% of the world's GDP of $65,000,000,000,000.

To really understand what that means, suppose you had a net worth of $50,000, and met someone undergoing a hardship. You offer to give him an amount equal to .00146% of your net worth. Would he be grateful to receive 73 cents? Possibly. Would it be a good start towards the future? Definitely not.

Consider this: The World Food Program (a branch of the UN) spends $2.9 billion distributing food to more than 90 million people each year. That more than 3 times our hypothetical $950 million. And the WFP does it every year. (I assume the billionaires are doing it once only.) Add to that, additional billions of dollars spent by other humanitarian food aid organizations each year. All that money and people will still go hungry next year.

So, what exactly would the $950 million accomplish? Precious little.

Maybe we could spend the money on really cheap T-shirts for 1/6th of the world's population that say "Bill Gates, et al, got on the World Richest List and all I got was this lousy T-shirt!"

better yet, say they all donated that 950 billion to the National Deficit and called themselves heroes and true Americans and went down in the History Books forever! Then there would be 950 homes who would take them in and they could all start over...after all they are so successful it isn't like it would take any time for them to build their empires back up!

Money is inert though. Where would this money go, and who would put in all the work? It isn't money strictly that will save "the earth"- it's collaboration, ingenuity, foresight, and concern. Money is just a tool that can make all those things come together in the end.
