Are you all so dense that every question I ask needs details added? What I'm saying is that the DOG IS IN MY YARD. MY property. So is there a law that prohibits this if the mailman is coming, and my dog is adverse to the mailman?

The postal service won't deliver to houses where their staff is at risk. So if you want your mail without going to the post office to get it, you better confine your dog somehow.

There is a law. If the mailman has to come inside your fenced yard to give you your mail then your dog has to be on a leash that isn't long enough for him to come anywhere near the mailman. Otherwise you won't be getting your mail. I even know of some mailmen carrying pepper spray and spraying the dogs if they feel the dog is a threat.

No...but the mailman can refuse to deliver mail....and make you go pick it up at the post office....or eventually start returning the mail back as undeliverable.
There may be a law regarding posting notice on the fence to warn people.
It varies city to city.
But to keep from getting sued by anyone...including the mailman...It's best to have signs

The mailman has a job to do. Why would you let a mean dog loose, since you know the mailman comes to deliver YOUR mail?

The law may depend on where you live...as long as the law allows you to have your dog in a fenced front yard, you are free to do that. But, the postal service can legally refuse to deliver your mail while the dog is present and unsecured.

yes. If the mailman gets hurt on someones property because of a dog, they are going to blame the owner.

I think it depends on local ordianances, so you would need to check with the local government on the legal side of it. Plus, I don't think they are required to deliever it if they feel they would be put into danger.

But as far as freaking common sense would go, --- yes. If not, and I was your mailman, you'd be fishing it out of the dog crap in your yard.

Yes. You need to keep your dog under control. If your dog bites someone you run the risk of losing your dog, and having your homeowner's insurance go up.
