Maybe you are wondering why God would have allowed sin to exist if it isn't for the purpose of bringing us closer to him. If so, yes, I can see where you might consider it a gift. The problem is for those who don't believe in sin, are not humbled when they commit sin, and do not use the consequences of sinful experiences to grow closer to God.

if it were a gift as you say it wouldn't be sin. the gift would be the right to choose our own paths while in the face of temptation. You learn about yourself by which way you turn. morally speaking. The statement above is only an excuse some people use so that they don't feel so bad about their path or their decision not to make a u turn.

Sin was a choice made by man. It was not a gift. God has allowed sin, but did not offer it as a gift. He offered His son Jesus as a gift so that the penalty for our sinfulness could be paid.

Sin is a result of becoming spiritually separated from God.All we really learn from sin is it enslaves us and kills us.It doesn't teach us anything positive about ourselves it only teaches that we are weak and victims of Satan. Therefore we need Jesus to enter into our lives who is strong and can deliver us from the wages of sin.He can fight Satan for us and live our life for us so we will always have a guide to lead us in the right direction instead of being orphaned children with an evil leading us into death and destruction.God wants to protect us from sin and lead us into righteousness and prosperity. That is how I live now.I still sin I know but nothing like the way I did before.I'm safe now and I'm alive and will live forever and never die again. That little voice that used to tempt me is gone,I no longer hear,"Go ahead,it's OK nobody will ever know but you"."Just do it,you know you want to".And then against my own will doing what I hated the most because I couldn't stop.Jesus says"She belongs to me,Satan be gone"and he left never to return again. As children of God we are supposed to despise sin because of what it does to us but love the person whose doing it because they are a slave to Satan and does not know what they do.

No we have sin or short comings with or without g_d....!
And I fail to see a case for imaginary design on this basis either which would deny the injected motive for a natural flaw in the progression from delution to knowledge . But if fantasy works for you leave it not be said that I would called the destroyer of a god awful ploy without good reason ;namely the facts as we understand them .Freud would turn over in his atheistic grave .

sin good or bad... it depends on your beliefs of course
in the garden of eden eve had two choices
one to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil
two ...to eat from the tree of life
to eat from the tree of knowledge was to bring forth death and a spiritual darkness but gives the wisdom of heavenly father
to eat from the tree of life they were supposed to have eternal life.
when they ate from the tree of knowledge they was given a gift from god
they were given the powers to choose right from wrong good or bad.
this gift also brings forth consequences from your choices. good consequences always gets good results bad well u know the idea.
we could use this knowledge from our experiences to teach others from what we have learned from ourselves or others ..if we choose to use our gifts wisely.
adam and eve did receive a gift but at what price if we dont use it well.

here is a article that a leader of the church has put out for others to read.. with very simple statements about what we believe in:

THE ARTICLES OF FAITH
OF THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-DAY SAINTS
History of the Church, Vol. 4, pp. 535—541
1 We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the dHoly Ghost.
2 We believe that men will be apunished for their bown sins, and not for Adam’s ctransgression.
3 We believe that through the aAtonement of Christ, all bmankind may be csaved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.
4 We believe that the first principles and aordinances of the Gospel are: first, bFaith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, cRepentance; third, dBaptism by eimmersion for the fremission of sins; fourth, Laying on of ghands for the hgift of the Holy Ghost.
5 We believe that a man must be acalled of God, by bprophecy, and by the laying on of chands by those who are in dauthority, to epreach the Gospel and administer in the fordinances thereof.
6 We believe in the same aorganization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, bprophets, cpastors, dteachers, eevangelists, and so forth.
7 We believe in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, evisions, healing, ginterpretation of tongues, and so forth.
8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.
9 We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet breveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
10 We believe in the literal agathering of Israel and in the restoration of the bTen Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will dreign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its fparadisiacal gglory.
11 We claim the aprivilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own cconscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.
12 We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.
13 aWe believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we fhope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to gendure all things. If there is anything virtuous, ilovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

"the sting of sin is death."
Why would anyone give a gift like that?
Sin is not a gift from God.
The freedom from that sin, Jesus, is a gift.
