The best way to clean ears is to use an ear cleaning solution from your vet or pet store. You want something made especially for the job that will not only clean but help kill the yeasts and bacteria that form in those dark, deep warm ears. Put a small amount of cleaner in each ear, then rub the dogs ear, squishing the cleaner around and then dry with a soft cloth.

You want to do this as needed, whenever some wax is apparent in the outer ear or an earthy smell develops. In my bassets this is about once every two weeks.

Baths are a good thing too. Just keep the soap out of their eyes and remember you are the boss and they will take baths pretty well. Once again, bathe as needed but too many baths will lead to dry skin. Once a month is probably plenty unless you beagle is a digger and a roller. Be prepared for them to shake and soak you from time to time. Rinse the soap out of their coats throughly too.

The best thing to do is ask your vet the next time you are in his or her office to give you a demonstration of the best way to clean your dogs ears.

You can find ear cleaning solutions at every pet store. Basically you take a moistened cotton ball and wipe down as much of the ear as you can (be cautious not to push wax material down into the ear) Then squirt a small amount of the solution down into the ear and give it a little vigorous rub (the dog will do the rest)

The best thing to use for cleaning ears is any ear cleaning solution with tea tree oil in it and cotton balls. It can be purchased at any major pet store. I personally use a tea tree oil based ear cleaner at my work. For bathing, point the dog's head towards the floor and the water shouldn't get in his ears because his ears are laying flat against his face. And if you're still nervous about getting water in his ears, just put a cotton ball in each ear.

At my vet, I got "Epi-Otic" by Virbac Animal Health which is an ear cleaner used for dogs, cats, puppies and kittens.

My dog had a problem with ear infections, so I used this ear cleaner weekly and after a bath. It really helped.

I just squeezed in a teaspoon of liquid and rubbed the outside of the ear. Then I wiped the inside of the ear with half a cotton ball.

Ask your vet and see what they have there!

they only need a bath about every 6 to 8 weeks if they are outside a lot. as to cleaning the ears do you mean in side of the ears or do you mean the ear leathers. just use a wash cloth and warm water. you can buy a bowl that is made so the ears go on outside of the bowl not in the bowl.

you could always go to your pet store and buy special cotton swabs made with cleanser in them and you can also buy bath wipes there. the bath wipes are just moist towels (come in XL sizes too) that you can just rub on the dog without the hassel. I've used something similar on my cats and the towels work great. But with the ear cleaning....just try and clean the edges...never stick the q-tip in where you first see dirt, it could be to far in or to close to the ear drum and cause damage

use a solution called oticalm or epiotic. both are available at a vet or petedge.com. squirt the solution down in to the ear canal. then wipe it out thoroughly. use a cotton ball or a soft cloth. a dogs ear canal goes down prety deep, so it's prety hard to damage anythingwith your finger. but i'd have to show you how. it goes down in to an almost L shape .
don't be too paranoid about ear infections. as ong as you dry it thoroughly, you shouldn't have problems with a regular bath. dogs with pendulous ears are prone to infections because air doesn't get in there. so keping it dry is the first step. don't be afraid of cleaning them. just make sure they are dry when you are done

Just put some cottonballs in his/her ears during the bath...or avoid the head when rinsing. You shouldn't have to clean the ears unless there is a problem. Good luck!
