I asked my doctor the same question...I wanted to dye my hair when I was pregnant and was told that it would be just fine to do so.
Good luck with baby and wedding!

Is it safe to get a perm while I'm pregnant?
What little evidence there is indicates that getting a perm or chemically straightening your hair is no cause for concern. The fumes might be annoying, but the exposure probably isn't significant enough to have any effect on your baby. Some hair-processing solutions may use solvents, and while there is concern about the effects of solvents on a developing baby, that's most likely an issue only for women who work around solvents all day and develop symptoms from the exposure. We've all seen pregnant hairdressers working in the salon and they seem to do okay. It's not so much that getting the perm is a problem. It's that your hair isn't going to respond in a predictable manner when you're pregnant. The hormones of pregnancy change the composition and texture of your hair. So the perm may or may not hold.
Is it safe to have my hair colored while I am pregnant? Is it safe period?
Ask your physician. Many do not recommend it; however, the studies done by the FDA point to some risk of bladder cancer from the darkest browns and black hair color. Those studies involved feeding the hair color to lab rats in the equivalent of a quart of color per day. How much, if any, color is absorbed through the skin and hair has never been studied. Any effect on the fetus has never been tested. Anecdotally, how many mothers in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s colored their hair during their pregnancies? Probably a lot, and the instances of birth defects and bladder cancers do not seem to correlate remotely.

if you perm your jair it may not take. your prego and your hormones are wacky. dying your dye, docs dont like that, they say it can be harmful to the baby. which i never witness as a hairdresser for 20 yrs. haircut no prob! anyhow, perms are out, unless you want to look like an 80's left over or an old lady. im sure your new hubby would love to see you with long flowing hair like every man in the world. just ask him? or show him a pic of a women with long hair and ask him if he would like that better, bet he'll pick the long locks! april

I would ask your Dr. but when i was pregnant i asked a hair dresser and she told me she gave perms and got her hair dyed and being around the solution all day didn't harm her baby. I think its ok but still, ask your Doctor to be sure. Better safe that sorry. I would personally go for the color and cut , and just have it curled instead of permed. good luck and congrats!

My doctor said the only reason people say its not a good idea is because the skin and scalp are very sensitve while you're pregnant so the dye could make you head burn really bad because of the chemicals in it. but other than that it is no risk to your baby, but I think it does matter depending on what trimester your in so u should ask your doctor first

As long as you are in an open area and can not breathe in the fumes. I died my hair a few times but never did I have any problems with my pregnancy . I asked my doctor and that was the information that they had given me to not put my baby in any harm.

I colored my hair throughout two pregnancies and both my kids are fine - just stay away from bleach and make sure the salon is well ventilated so you aren't huffing dye fumes. I don't know about perming.

I was told that you shouldn't dye your hair during your first trimester. After that, it is fine, just make sure you are in a well ventilated area.

As a Hairstylist myself, I would have no worries getting my hair colored if I was pregnant.
