When I was in (Air Force), this guy's fiance came to visit him. She was sleeping with his room mat and offered to sleep with me. I said no. This was quite common.

Well, most of my friends in the Fighter or SpecOps worlds are either on their second/third marriage, or just stayed single.
I think part of the problem, at least for enlisted troops is the totally unfair additional moneys paid to married troops. Some very young/naive folks see this as a way to get out of the dorms, and get more cash.
Also, the youth (hey the AVERAGE age of military personnel is 27), combined with the stresses of military life lead to dissolved marriages.
Before folks start getting excited, my parents were married 50 years, and my father was an enlisted aircrew member. Yes, it can be done, but it's not the statistical likelihood.

The majority of ALL marriages in the United States don't last, so the military marriage failures are just a reflection of the rest of society. As for the infidelity, I would say that probably has a lot to do with military families being separated for long periods of time, which can obviously be difficult to deal with at times. However, I know military marriages that have worked out, it just depends on how much work you're willing to put into it, I guess.

My dad has been in the navy for 17 years and often at sea and my parents marriages is still lasting even though my mom had to raise 2 children with her husband away more than 6 months a year. And I don't think there has ever been infidelity.

It is not because it is a military marriage that there will be infidelity or that it won't last. It can and happens to every kind of marriage.

It happens alot. And yes there are whores everywhere....I see them alllll the time. I can tell whose husbands have deployed already just by their behavior, aside from the slutty clothes they have on.

My in laws have been married for 40 years. He retired a CSM and did multiple overseas tours. My husband thinks they have been married so long BECAUSE of those deployments. Gave them time to appreciate each other and fall in love all over again upon reunion.

My husband and I are happily married. There is no other man out there like him and I wouldnt trade him for the world. We have been through 2 deployments together and he is about to deploy to Iraq for the 2nd time, his 4th deployment since 02. Our marriage is stronger than ever and that wont change if he is here or deployed.

So yes, cheating happens. But I also know that military marriages are some of the strongest out there because of the things the relationship has to endure.

I know this is a common perception, and part of it is true. What I've found, though... is that it's the couple that got married before one joined the military that has the most problem (or a POG that decided to be a GRUNT and the wife is use to her man being home every night). Not everyone is cut out to be a military wife, it just happes that some dont find that out until much later, after they've already said "I do".

Infidelity is about the same as a marriage where one of the partners travel for extended periods of time. Absence does not always make the heart grow fonder - it often makes for unfaithfulness. Sad but true - loneliness can make people do horrible things like cheat.

Excuse my language, but whores are everywhere...not just the military.

People will cheat regardless of what their job is. It is just 'easier' to cheat when your spouse isn't around all the time. But for cheaters, when there's a will, there's a way.

My husband has been deployed going on 6 months and I have remained faithful to him. He is supposed to be here any day now for R&R and he is definitely worth the wait!

Only reason I could even relate cheating to the military is because the men and women get married when they are still girls and boys. They are young and dumb.

many last 21 years in April.
there are sickos all over the world in every walk of life. The only military infidelity I knew of was a girl whose husband beat her up. He got home to find divorce papers waiting instead of a wife and children.
I don't blame her.
