Im a freshmen in high school and I do not see a point in learning Algebra. Its not like if u become a doctor, pilot, lawyer, non-algebra/math teacher, army, singer, actor, writer etc. ur going to use it, right? So whats the point? If u really wanna learn it they should have it in college, as a choice.

I hate to say it but I took Algebra class in 1991 and have NOT yet used what I learned. So I am STILL looking for a point to having learned it.

Why are you asking this in the AIR TRAVEL forum?

Algebra is used in every day life whether or not you realize it. You've been learning Algebra since grade school you just didn't know it. In grade school you were taught 2+2=? (4) Alegbra is the same thing except you already have the answer 2+?=4 Algebra is all about changing or maniuplating an equation to find out what the missing number is.

It is very important and helps teach logic and problem sloving.

Algebra is meant to exhibit you serious/analytical wondering skills and using good judgment. Unfortuanately, the common US gadget is between the worst at preparation mathematica customarily. the attitude of memorization and by no potential expertise the why's and how's of math turn many a vibrant pupil faraway from further study of both math and technological awareness. you're also fairly perfect contained in the concept you received't fairly want it! until eventually you're headed for further preparation in math, technological awareness, engineering, tech, or drugs, maximum pupils fairly purely use as a lot because the Algebra I factor. That being stated, algebra is merely yet another hoop you would possibly want to bounce through to get to what you fairly opt for to do. there'll alway be instructions, artwork assignments, etc. that are probably unnecessary. attending to entice close a thanks to "deal" with them is necessary. in case you fairly have the want to make your attending to entice close appropriate, ask the instructor to contain authentic existence purposes of what you're attending to entice close (in a deferential way!). Ask him/her to come back up with eventualities and appropriate resources. maximum instructors take exhilaration in considerate comments and insights, plus you'll stand out as a pupil that desires more desirable than merely the needed seat time. sturdy luck!

Algebra, like any other subject is pretty useless unless you actually need it. Then you'll be wishing that you've paid attention. Since you can't predict what you'll need and what you'll never use, your best bet is to learn it anyways. Plus, you get the short term benefit of passing the test.

it helps you learn problem solving skills. believe me, i hated it too, but for some odd reason it's really helpful in later life...
for example, if you like making things. or if you're hanging a picture. you want it to be even right? well, how are you going to find out where to hang it if you don't know algebra?

yeah actually i have to agree with you. i mean next year i'm gonna take geometry which has a little bit to do with algebra. in college my brother learned about SI units and that has like nothing to do with algebra. its just equations.
