Can i be a linguist in the United States Marine Corps? I am undersized as of right now but im working out nearly every day of the week and studying ranks, insignia, and the traditions of the Marine Corps, im in it for the honor of serving the country. I dont agree with how the war is being handled, but its our duty as citizens to answer the call. So can i make it because i know i have the mentality? So can i be a linguist too?

You sure can (and yes, the Marines do have them)! In addition to passing the ASVAB, you will also have to take the DLAB (Defense Language Proficiency Battery). This will determine whether you can be a linguist! Training is still in Monterey CA at one of the best language institutes in the world. You will also need a security clearance so make sure you keep your nose clean. Good luck! If you have any questions let me know.

I don't know if the Marines has a Linguist MOS. I know the Army and the Navy both do. Used to be training was at the Army DLI (Defense Language Institute) in Monterey, California.

You have to pass an apitude test, last time I did this. It's a "fake" language test where you have to decline nouns and conjugate verbs, and based on the "rules" of the language create sentences. If you took Latin in school and did well, it's a piece of cake.

If the Corps needed you very bad they would somehow bypass the size issue. As to the linguist deal, the Corps has their own lingo and it can't be printed on this site!!

,,,,,,,,squirt .........(one day ya might weigh 194 & be pretty bad,so don holdit aginme),if you have a talent for language, dialect.tone, timbre & that stuff, usmc would letcha in & go to work forem.the'll give ya lotsa stuff to do,your duties will be delineated.nunerous.your inventiveness will be noticed over time.as to whether you could handle it.test yourself on a treadmill with a laptop, headphones, and tapes to translate while running laps.listen critically to voice transmission in chosen language, maybe over shortwave, and other variable quality sources, transcribe as fast and accurate as you can.
