the same reason they praise god when they do something great and ignore him when they mess up. they are in denial.

Heaven and Hell are nowhere else but here on this beautiful planet - Earth.
mankind has been given a paradise like earth which is happily turned in to a hell by blood thirsty wars in the name of god and peace.

Because the people that believe they are going to heaven believe in heaven and hell. The people who you believe are going to hell do not believe in either (at least your view of them).

I suppose it is lack of knowledge. If you don't know Jesus as Lord, then you won't get into Heaven.

People won't believe they could be "evil enough" to go to Hell.
Problem is it is their guidelines they use, not God's.

Because as children we're taught to be rewarded when we do something our parents want us to do, and to be punished when we do something our parents don't want us to do.
Same principle, applied to adults, for control.
