I'd prefer to have Christians respond

True, the Bible doesn't say anything about Jesus being married, but it doesn't mention him ever having a job. Are you trying to tell me that for the 30 years of his life not mentioned in the Bible that he was unemployed? Besides, they don't mention that he wasn't married. Now don't you think that if a charasmatic Jew 2000 years ago in his 30's refused to get married that someone would have written it down? It would have been on of his most distinguishing characteristics, yet not a single person in the entire New Testament says anything about it.
Besides, if Jesus was married and had children, how does that take away from his teachings? "Oh no! He had a family?! Does that mean we should still love our neighbors?" Really, what's the problem?

I'm not Christian, but I just wanted to thrown in my two-cents. I think it probably has to do with these activities (getting married, being a parent, etc) are such ordinary things. Normal, mortal men do these things. Thus in a way, it takes away from his divinity. Because even if he did do all the things stated in the Bible, he was an ordinary man too. It's a lot harder to revere an ordinary man (with great accomplishments) than it is to revere a superhuman, immortal being. Just an opinion on the issue.

Cool question: So, here's the deal.

Jesus was considered a Prince from the Tribe of David. Being in a Tribe, and a Prince, he would have had to of taken a wife before he turned 30...it would be the equivalant of a 40 year old today being a virgin. They would be making fun of him constantly.

However, there are a few things that would have stunted this story. 1) He and Mary Magdeline (a princess form another tribe) were together all the time. Most of the apostles believed that she was taking him away form his work. Consider it like a guy wants to chill with his friends, but his girlfriend is all up in his grill.

Anyway, Mary and Jesus are doing God knows what (no pun intended) and his friends are pissed, so they don't mention her really except to slander her.

Also keep in mind that the Gospels are loosely translated, and out of the 60 some-odd, they chose only 4. So, it could have said some other things, but the Roman Catholic Church, upon adopting the religion, made some swift changes that we don't know about in detail.

It really doesn't take away from the religion as we see it today, but in more "Pure" times, it wouldn't have been Kosher to see your God getting a booty call - that's what mythological gods did all the time, Get my drift.

The Bible does mention Jesus having a job.

The problem, for me, has nothing to do with what is sacreligious or not. The problem is that those who advocate the marriage of Jesus to Mary Magdalene fabricate evidence and tie in an entire mythos that is completely unsubstatiated. Even though Christianity elevated the status of women in Greco-Roman society far above the norm, the married Jesus bunch uses a completely unsubstatiated myth to propagate the idea that ealry Christianity was misogynistic. Even though there is no evidence of any 'sacred feminine' in Greco-Roman paganism, proponents of the married Jesus create a myth in which the early Church replaced a peaceful, harmonious and enlightened religion based on the sacred feminine with a repressive and violent patriarchy.

The problem is not religious, it is idealogical. If we accept the assertions made by most proponents of the married Jesus, we have submit to the blatant demonization of early Christianity. That is the problem.

that's no longer what's so upsetting. If there replaced into any evidence that Jesus replaced into married, that does no longer be a situation. the explanation people are disillusioned relating to the Da Vinci Code is that Dan Brown provides history documents (like the Priory of Sion) as certainty. The plot of the radical isn't a situation - it particularly is in simple terms fiction. it particularly is no longer inevitably authentic that Jewish adult males interior the 1st century could have been attempting to start a kin. The Essenes (no longer the adult males at Qumran) did no longer marry, and neither did the Egyptian Therapute. opposite to ordinary opinion, Jesus and his followers have been citizens of the heavily Hellenized Galilee, and speant maximum of their time interior the Greek cities of the Decapolis. It replaced into now common in any respect in favour of a Hellenized Jew to be single in his 30's, exceedingly if he replaced into an intenerate wisdom instructor. undergo in concepts, Scripture does no longer say that Jesus replaced right into a rabbi or a Pharisee. And if it replaced into so unusual for a Pharisee to proceed to be single, then why replaced into the Apostle Paul single?

It's not the idea that Jesus COULD be married, but that people are all of a sudden trying to change what is known. As to your specific questions, Jesus did have a job!

Take a look at Matthew 6:2-4
When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.

"Where did this man get these things?" they asked. "What's this wisdom that has been given him, that he even does miracles! 3Isn't this the carpenter? Isn't this Mary's son and the brother of James, Joseph,[a] Judas and Simon? Aren't his sisters here with us?" And they took offense at him.

4Jesus said to them, "Only in his hometown, among his relatives and in his own house is a prophet without honor."

In this scripture, you see answers to 3 of your issues: Jesus did have a trade - he was a carpenter. Also, these verses mention Jesus, the son of Mary, but if he was married, why did they not mention his wife and children?

Also, take a look at John 19:25-27
25Near the cross of Jesus stood his mother, his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his mother, "Dear woman, here is your son," 27and to the disciple, "Here is your mother." From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.

If Jesus were married to Mary Magdelene, would Jesus not also have asked John to take care of his wife and not just his mother (after all, Mary Magdalene was also standing right next to his mother) and would have been considered a widow.

Sorry, but I just don't buy that the Bible was somehow a vendetta by Peter t change the words of God to suit his personal gain and harm Jesus' wife in the process. Instead, I think that the idea that Jesus was married is based on someone who wants to disprove scriptures and has a bone to pick with established religion.

I am a Christian and nothing can diminish for me who Jesus was and is for us. Frankly, if he had not been married, the people of his day would have thought he was some kind of nut, and would not have listened to him. The idea that he was married gives him more credibility in my view, and it really does not matter to me one way or the other.

I truly believe this idea of his "celibacy" was a construct that the Catholic church came up with (the first organized evangelical Christian movement) because they did not want to support the families of their priesthood.

AND NONE OF US WAS THERE TO TAKE PICTURES, PEOPLE. SO WE WILL NEVER REALLY KNOW FOR SURE.

Can I answer your question with another Q? If Jesus wasnt married, why does the bilble tell of marriage as being so sacred and to be one of the commandments not to be broken?
If being married is such a holy union b/t man, woman, and God, Why would Gods son not be married? And also why is adultry one of the unforgivable sins?

The devil knows that his days are numbered. And he is losing the battle. All this stories about Jesus being married started from the 'DaVinci Code' movie. The devil is smart. He uses people to do his dirty work. If Jesus was really married it would have been mentioned in the Bible. Why would someone take that away. Dont get led by the devil with this believe's. He is just trying to confuse everyone.

DS: This is because of the fact, that Jesus is espoused [engaged] the marry His "Bride" - the Church at His return to the earth. (see: The Book of Revelation, Chapter 21, verses 8 - 10 in the K.J.V.) "Lamb" is Christ - "Bride" is the Church.
If Christ was married here, at His first coming , He would be committing "spiritual adultery". This is because when a person was espoused [engaged] in the Jewish tradition of the time, it was as good as being married. Christ was espoused to the Church He was forming at His first coming.

I believe what is written in the bible and I know Jesus wasnt married because He came here for a purpose. You can't compare Him to humans back then because He was perfect, holy. Jesus had his eyes fixed on God.
