First, if you are wearing contact lenses, take them out. Then try using a few wetting drops (artificial tears, not contact lens moistening drops). If this doesn't help, go to your eye doctor.

I just dealt with a similar problem not long ago and it turned out I had a corneal ulcer. If left untreated, some corneal ulcers can even cause blindness in only 24 hours. There are a lot of other possibilities, but most of them require diagnosis and treatment by a doctor. If you can't find relief (and not just relief but resolution) very quickly on your own, see your doctor immediately -- you don't want to take chances with your eyes!

Also, make sure you are not leaving contact lenses in too long. This deprives your eyes of oxygen and causes other problems (trapped debris, etc). While you may get away with it temporarily (as I did), it will eventually catch up with you, resulting in deteriorating eyesight, infections, or worse. Please take care of your eyes!

Well. Im on my school's diving team, and my eyes are constantly getting iritated by the chlorine in the water. One thing that they taught me to do when my eyes are iritated and are stiging is to fill a glass half way with water and fill it up with milk. Then flush ur eyes out. The lactic in the milk helps remove any irritation to eyes. Try it. Promise it will work. Good Luck ;)

Try a hot compress. Get a rag and run it under hot water until its as hot as you can stand (without burning yourself!) Put it over your eyes for about 5 minutes. That should help.
