I didn't use cheerios...

We lived in a hot climate, so one summer we just let him run around nekkid. We reminded him every fifteen minutes or so that if he had to pee, he had to use the toilet. When he didn't, he lost the priviledge to play with one toy of OUR choosing (usually, the fave toys went first). After about a month, he was consistently going to the toilet to pee. Then came #2... that took MUCH longer and there were dumdum lollipops involved--never underestimate the exotic power of candy on a stick. About the only bad thing about how we did it was that once we got him potty trained, he didn't want to wear clothes...

Cheerios and food coloring. I've also heard of putting cheap toy sail boats in the toilet for aim. Not to sure about the last one, but she swore it worked, lol.

i started training my 3 year old when he was 2. Just by praising every time he went to the toilet and not making a huge fuss when accidents occured. But i used a method of rewarding...Everytime he went to the toilet he got a reward (lollie, or something they love but can't always have)... It worked only took 2 months

A trick I used was making a game of pushing the handle (flushing).

Getting a small piece of Fruit was the incentive.

My son used to flush about three times, before he learned that once is enough.
