No. Archeaologists have found honey pots in egyptian tombs that are still fine to eat. Honey is antiseptic, in a pinch it even makes a good bandage seal.

I don't think honey can go bad. I remember reading somewhere that when scientists first discovered mummys' tombs, they found honey. Now, a detail to make note of here is that the egyptians mummified the dead by removing all the organs and putting them into jars so that the organs would be intact, in some mystical way. They believed the body would come back to life, and it would need all of its organs to function properly. In addition, the tombs also contained day-to-day items, beds, jewelry and slaves. After all, one cannot awaken to an afterlife and have to do all the work. Coming back to the point, the tombs were also stocked with food, as thousands of years of rest might make you a bit hungry. Of all the jars in all the tombs deep below the desert surface, only one food did not go bad. After thousands of years, honey was the only thing that hadn't spoiled!

Honey does not expire. You will not get sick from eating it. The reason is honey will not allow any bacteria to grow in it (very low water content) and no fats can go rancid. Edit - After reading some of the comments. I have to say one of the worst things you can do is to smell and taste without thoroughly cooking any questionable canned foods. A lot of the food bourne pathogens do not cause a smell in food or alter the taste. If you taste it straight from the can, you're ingesting the toxins which can cause illness. The point is - if you are in doubt, don't smell and taste it. Cook the food and then taste it. Back to the honey, you should be fine eating the "expired" honey without having to cook it.

It can go bad. We had some honey and it completely condensed so that it wouldn't go out of the bottle, but we stored it in a warm place so that was what probably caused it to go fine. But as long as it looks good it probably is good.

I don't think so. But I do know after so long it starts to crystalize and become totally like sugar. But dad always keeps honey too long. He still eats it. But then again Im talking about a man who will eat anything.

No, apparently honey is the one food product that never expires.

If it's generic cover tightly; if crystallizes, warm jar in pan of hot water

Best taste if used in 2 yrs. Lasts indefinitely so use for baking after 2 yrs. If in a can, may turn dark.

If it's years old, pitch it and buy a new one. Otherwise, if it's turned all to crystal, just let it (the jar) stand in a sink of hot water for a short spell and it will return to as good as new.
