Uhm because they are law enforcement, who CARRY GUNS and there are a lot of illegals who are more than just seeking employment...they are criminals. And, let's not forget one of the easiest routes for a terrorist to hit the US is through the Mexican border.

Because there are many ''Drug lords'' who tries to cross the borders or people who are sometimes running from the Law.
They carry guns to protect us and themselves as well.

For their own protection, especially from those smuggling over drugs and illegal immigrants. That's their way of making money (smugglers) and some will do anything for money.
