A decision to go to nursing school is a big committment. It's something you really have to want to do. It's a lot of studying, and hard work once you become a nurse.
It's a fascinating career. It helps build self-confidence and you are making a big contribution to the good of society. Once you get experience in general med-surg nursing, you can branch out to many other types of nursing.
The hours can be rough...people are sick 24/7. Holidays and weekends are just like any other day. Sometimes the pay doesn't seem like enough, when you consider someone who plays golf or baseball makes more money in a year than you'll make in a lifetime.
I go along with the suggestion of working in a hospital as a nurse's aid or as a volunteer before you commit to nursing school. You should have an idea of what you're getting into.
I don't do chat, but I'd be happy to answer your questions. I've been a nurse for many, many years, so may not be up on all the current nursing programs available. But I sure do know about nursing itself! :)

While you are waiting on nurses to answer you - let me speak as a patient...(I was in the hospital 8 times last year.)
YES! The medical field is in desperate need! My local paper is full of classifieds asking for nurses - and our local colleges are cranking them out as fast as they can.
It is a HARD course of study. Many friends of mine simply disappeared when they hit their Junior year. The only time I saw them was when they paid me to type their papers and notes for them.
I have a great deal of respect for nurses... if you feel led into the field, GO FOR IT!
Good luck. Peace. --De

Nursing is a great career and there is a shortage of them for the foreseeable future. My daughter has been one for two years. It sure opened my eyes.... tremendous responsibility.... they are the very heart of our medical system..... sometimes very unpleasant..... but rewarding. The pay is great because of high demand. I hope that you have a great career should you choose the field.

nursing is a great choice if you like working with people. but it also is hard work. currently training for the ICU. i have worked in several other specialties like med/sur, psych and hemodialysis in-pt and out- pt. try working as a patient care attendant to see if you like that type of work. you are also exposed to many diseases that are contagious.
