It's an asterix. Usually it means "wildcard" in searches, so if you're looking for something in Yahoo search and you know the beginning of what you want, like lets say cats something, you type cats * to denote that you want to search up anything, as long as it follows the word cats, or something along those lines.

Also it means times, as in 2*3=6, on calculator, and in most programs on the computer.

I don't think "astre" is a word in English. The normal word for the "*" character is "asterisk". Both are obviously related to the Latin word for "star", from which we get "astral" (i.e. related to stars) and Spanish gets "estrella" ("star").

I don't know what an astre is....aster is a type of flower...asterix is *....astra is latin for stars.....
