Its red and has little little hairs on it making it quite furry.Makes you feel like you are touching on velvet.Its abit sour and when you eat it,it makes your fingertips turn orange.Below is a picture i took of it.You might wanna open in a new window.Thanks in advance!

haha.... i dun think its a lychee since a lychee do not really have hairs.
But from what i see its actually a type of preserved fruit (like a plum or a fruit of similar sort) that the chinese like to eat. Normally the actual color aint red, that is why ur fingers turn orange due to the coloring.
The chinese usually have these for the new year and they come in green, yellow...
If you like these I am sure you will be able to find it in those sweets/preserved fruit stalls along chinatown.

From what you said it sounds like peaches, but it looks more like raspberries!
