Cellulitis is an infection of the soft tissues (like skin the fat under the skin).
Staphylococcus aureus is a bacteria that usually lives on our skin or in our nasal passages and sometime sinuses. Staph aureus can cause serious infections, and is becoming increasingly resistant to antibiotics.
MRSA stands for methicillin-resistant staph aureus. Methicillin is a very strong antibiotic derived from penicillin. MRSA is resistant not only to methicillin, but to most other commonly used antibiotics. Typically, MRSA is still able to be killed by Vancomycin, which is only given through an IV. There are a couple brand new (and very expensive) antibiotics that may also be able to treat MRSA.
MRSA usually lives in hospitals, but it is beginning to show up in the general community also.
Cellulitis itself is not usually contagious because the bacteria are deep in the skin where they can not become airborn or spread by touch unless there are weeping (wet) areas of the skin.

Cellulitis is a skin or underling tissue infection.MRSA is Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus. is used to be a primarily hospital aquired infection. more and more people are becoming infected in the community. In laymans terms its a super infection. it is usually treated with vancomycin.though vancomycin saves lives, it may grow resistant as well; some hospitals are already seeing outbreaks of vancomycin-resistant MRSA. To help reduce that threat, doctors may drain an abscess caused by MRSA rather than treat the infection with drugs.ive seen the best results when the dr. drains/debreeds the wound and uses the drug in combination.

mrsa is a hospital-aquired infection. sometimes if someone is ill and the immune system is already stressed, they become prone to ...MORE infections. cellulitis is a general term for an infection of the tissues-skin.
tratment will likely be iv antibiotics and maybe a topical antibiotic. they might be put on isolation if they are in the hospital. hopefully it does not become resistant to abx.
take care!
