ok umm well....Im 11 years old, and I think I have some problems... Like I have had people at school, who have ruined my life, and I end up almost every night crying..... I am always depressed even when I try to be happy and look on life the optimistic way. I have a lot of other problems like this and worse and I kinda feel embarrassed about it, so I wont say it on the internet... um- to the point, I feel like I need to go to the therapist... HOW DO I TELL MY MOM?! Seriously, she is going to freak and not take me seriously, and be like, oh you can't have "issues" your too little, but reality check- I may be little but even have more issues than her herself......HELP!?

Okay, first off, you have to be calm when you talk to her. People take other people more seriously who sound like they mean what they say and have thought about what they're saying.

Next, you make a list. You write down the reasons why you want to see a therapist. All the reasons you want to do this. That you feel that you want to talk to someone who isn't involved in any of this and can be objective.

If she doesn't seem to be listening, you tell her that you need to see your family doctor (and why). At the doctor's office, you ask to speak to him alone. You tell him that you feel you need to see a therpist (and why). Enlist his (or her) help in convincing your mom. You can also enlist the help of an adult you trust (like a school counselor or trusted relative).

Your Mom may not want to believe that you have serious problems. You might try telling her that you have problems and want to see someone who can help you find ways to keep them from getting more serious.

Some people find admitting they need help (or someone they love needs help) threatening, so you might have to discuss this more than once. Stick with it!

If you were lost, you'd ask for directions, right? Well, a good therapist is basically a person with a good map who can help you find your way. Seeing a therapist doesn't mean you're "crazy." It means you're smart and recognize that your life isn't working quite right, so you want to do something about it.

Good luck!

try talking to a school counselor about how you've been feeling. that might help. if that's not enough of a help, ask them to talk to your mom with you so you have someone on your side who takes you seriously. in any case, try your best to speak as calmly as possible. no whining! parents stop hearing you when the whining starts. :) if you have a hard time saying just what you want to, try writing a letter to your mom. that way you can get the wording right. good luck, sweetie. being a kid isn't easy... :)

Say, "Mom, I need a therapist." You should also try talking to a close friend. By the way, your life is not ruined. It's only ruined when you make it that way, not some jerks at school.

Well, first of all no one is too young to have problems (you can tell your mother that). As long as the devil lives, the bible says that we are all born with sin and are not perfect. maybe you should just pray, and if your mom doesn't let you take therapy , then a good idea is to journal it. (it helps big time). If your mom says that, show her how much you need this therapy by showing her this question. She should understand that you didn't know what else to do. Good luck to you. Hope the talk with your mom goes good.

wow! Please tell her....soon. I am a mother of a 10 year old and for me not knowing what's wrong with my daughter would be devastating. If you feel the need to speak with a therapist, do it. If you can't tell your mom, try your dad, older sister or brother, even a social worker, Do not let this pass!!
Even if you think you are too young, your problems are very real for you.

God bless!

My son just went through what you are going through and he is 14 yrs old. He just sat his dad and myself downone night and said that he was having some problems and he needed to talk to someone about it. Don't be afraid of you mom, she might not believe you at first keep trying until you can convince her that it is in your best inerest to see someone. Who knows she just might understand. Give it a try.

You wrote some great reasons why you want to go. Why not either show her your yahoo question (and the answers if you want) or just print it out.
It seems to me you communicated pretty well in writing your question. Go with your strength. You did it well already, go with it.
