It means some people have made their minds up that they hate a certain group and nothing will change their minds.
So they will never have the opportunity to meet with these people to possibly change their opinion of them.

We usually like what we're comfortable with, so someone that may not seem "familiar" or simply if we have prejudice towards them because we really don't know them may not be of our liking. Because we believe we don't like them, we will not put time and effort into actually getting to know such person

I think it means that sometimes we dislike people for no reason, and you will never get to know them, if you don't give everyone a shot. And, if you don't immediately judge someone, they could be your next best friend. It's kinda like "don't judge a book by its cover". Hope this helps.
