It depends. The tuition paid can be claimed as a deduction for tuition and fees. You would need to read the instruction and compute with the worksheet the amount allowed. it depends on serveral factors, especially your AGI. You could also claim the tuition as a creidt under the Hope Credit or the Lifetime Learning credit. For these credit you will file form 8863 and report the amount on line 50 of your 1040 tax return. Hope this helps

You have three choices:

1) Apply your tuition expense as an adjustment to income (bottom section of the 1040 long form). This option is usually only beneficial to high income people who can adjust down a high tax bracket.

2) Hope credit (special form for the credit, transfer the total to the back of the 1040 in the credit section). This credit is only for people in their first two years of college.

3) Lifetime credit (special form, same line on 1040 as the Hope Credit). This credit is for anyone who pays tuition and doesn't qualify for the Hope Credit.

Line 35 if you just want to take the deduction. You are probably better off taking the education credit on line 50. Be sure to attach Form 8863. A credit is better than a deduction in most cases.
