politics politics politics.....St Croix hasn't done a good job promoting itself as something different from the other Caribbean islands; crime was cited as the reason but Fredrikstead and Christianstead STX are no more dangerous then Charlotte Amalie StT and a lot less than Trinidad.....

a lot has to do with the new cruise ship dock in Crown Bay St Thomas......crusie ship lines offered to build , manage and own it........local government said no thanks we'll build manage and own it.....cruise ships suddenly decided St Croix was too dangerous for them and probably would have found ST Thomas was too, except for the huge passenger demand to come here

Crimes against Cruise ship passengers were cited when Carnival ( the primary cruise line serving the area) in 2002 dropped St Croix from its list of Port Calls

The crime rate is high so to protect their passengers, the cruise ships stop going there. Maybe you can risk taking the ferry from one of the other islands and go there if you really want to see the place when you go ashore.
