1 cup of solid shortening (Crisco)

1 cup of solid butter or margarine

1 box of confectioner's sugar

2 tsp of clear vanilla

2 tsp of almond extract

1/2 tsp of salt

1/3 cup of water or milk

Mix all items- being mindful of scraping down the sides and the bottom of the bowl.

Mix to a dull satin-like finish is achieved.

Add food color if you like- blend until there are no streaks.

Ice cake!

**Add 3/4 cup of Baker's Cocoa or 3-4 squares of semi-sweet chocolate (melted) for Chocolate Icing.

*** For darker chocolate icing add 5 more squares of chocolate.

**** For chocolate mocha icing - substitute fresh coffee for the milk in recipe.

***** For a different flavor, add flavored coffee as a substitute for the coffee in recipe.

The very best is, a container of cool whip, a small box of Jello pudding, any flavor you want, mix it till all the pudding is incorporated with the cool whip and spread on the cake. It's so easy and a very light frosting. I've used it many times and people always ask what kind of frosting did I use. They all raved about it.

Go to foodnetwork.com and look up French Butter Cream. Not to sweet and very light in texture, but very delicious. I wish I had mine from school but I don't know where my books are at the moment. Otherwise I would give yo mine. The difficulty level is moderate in making this icing, so good luck.

This is the easiest and the quickest!!!!buy whipping cream..it comes in a carton like milk but reads whipping cream. then beat it until it looks like icing..add sugar to your taste while whipping it (use an electric hand blender thingy) add chocolate powder if you want to make a chocolte icing...but the original is good too

Try a real whipped cream frosting with vanilla extract, and adding some cream cheese and sugar---to taste. Powdered sugar tastes best. Cream cheese actually tastes pretty good with chocolate cake.

Use a traditional buttercream recipe, but substitute crisco for the butter (decorator icing) Use a nice vanilla.
