Bad time to ask - tomorrow would have been my Dad's birthday.
One cannot be happy all the time - without unhappy times, how would you know you were happy? But we should not let sadness overwhelm us. "This too shall pass..."

If we didn't have sadness, how could we experience the opposite, happiness? They are two sides of the same coin. The comparison makes the richness of joy all the better.

It helps me understand others sadness; which brings possible ways to relieve their sadness and help them. Empathize I think is the term?
Walk a mile in someones shoes so you can understand them better.

I try not to let it rule me, but I've been through some pretty sad times. My father died a year ago this month. I think about him every day.
