I am thinking of undergoing hypno-therapy and I'm just wondering what it's like. Do you feel funny afterwards?

You just feel relaxed after. Being hypnotized is really just being in a relaxed state and being talked through different things while in the relaxed state.

You can do it through someone that does it, or you can order self-hypnosis tracks for a lot of different things. Both have someone talking you through breathing to relax, and talk you through imagining different scenarios and relaxing more as you keep going...after you reach a certain state of relaxation, they start the therapy part of the session for whatever you are doing it for. Then they talk you through slowly coming more aware to the world around you. They usually count to 10 and tell you that at the count of 10 you can open your eyes. You stay awake for the whole thing, and remember everything afterwards.

Someone cannot make you do anything under hypnosis that you wouldn't normally be inclined to do. There are only a VERY small percentage of people that can get hypnotized like you see at shows. These people are picked before hand because of their susceptability, and are staged in the audience before the show to be picked as the lucky candidate. Chances are, you are not one of them so don't fear that you will do things that you don't want to do while "under"...it doesn't work like that.

I've found hypnotherapy to be very helpful to me, and I highly recommend it to anyone willing to try it.

Hypnosis is a very natural state and you have experienced it already. Every human has:

The 'Sunday morning feeling' of waking slowly - feeling pleasantly warm and drifty - you know you could get up but you don't want to.

It is call the hypnotic state. it is the moment between sleep and away. Hypnosis is wrongly named - it is not sleep. the Media presentation of it is wrong too. you will not be in a zombie state but aware of all around you.

After you will feel relaxed.

By the way - you are in control and cannot be made to do anything against your will.

It is a very powerful tool and when blended with NLP &/or CBT it can resoulve so many problems.

It is the most powerful when stopping smoking. Patches and the like get 40% - most hypnotherapists should easily get 70% or more success.

Hypnosis is nothing more than a deep state of relaxation which is all trance is. And don't worry that a hypnotist can make you do something that would be contrary to your values or beliefs as hypnosis cannot make you do anything you don't want to do.
As for stage shows, notice the fact that the "hypnotist" always asks for volunteers. The reason is simple. Only those people who want and are willing to do what is asked volunteer. And those who "volunteer" in order to prove it won't work are absolutely correct-you cannot hypnotize someone who doesn;t want to be hypnotized. It's a VOLUNTARY process.
I do agree that you should trust the hypnotist before engaging in it, as any mistrust or doubt will prevent you from being able to achieve trance.

You know, this is something that I would like to have done. But only because there are some things in my past that I feel I need to release. Like, for instance, there is NOTHING about my childhood that I remember. And all of my family finds this to be really weird. They have actually told me to go to a hypnotist, but I haven't really made the decision yet because I feel that I might be able to remember things on my own. I promised myself if I haven't remembered anything before my 30th bday, then I would try this method of helping me to remember. I haven't actually tried this before, but I wish I had so that I could tell you about it. If you do decide to be hypnotized, just make sure that you feel that you are doing the right thing, because I was told that hypnotism isn't something to play with. I wish you the best of luck!!

i went to a theme park with a hypnosis show and got hypnotised. it's not really anything like "mind control" but it's more like just really up to suggestion. you have an " i don't care" feeling. like if someone asked you to do something embarrassing you really wouldn't care if it embarrassed you and you'd do it anyways. i ended up lip-syncing to shakira and actually though that i was her. the thing is if you don't do as the person says to do and don't let yourself become open to suggestion then it won't work.

I've only been hypnotized for entertainment purposes! Don't EVEN go there! The only thing I felt was a little bewildered.
