I think the butcher already took out the guts. What you left in was the giblets and the neck wrapped in parchment and placed within the neck and body cavities. They would not be fun to eat but would not be harmful.

If you really got a chicken that had not been eviscerated and had the intestines filled with waste in it your only choice is to dump the whole thing immediately - but that is not really much of a possibility unless you bought a live chicken and killed it at home without dressing it.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with eating the giblets. As long as you cooked the chicken to the proper temperature, (165), all the parts of it are safe.

Absolutely safe.

When a chicken is processed, all of the bad innards(intestines, gull bladder) are removed. The stuff inside, when cooked, is perfectly safe.

Bon Appetite!

If fully cooked, you won't get sick, but you might throw up when eating certain parts of it. Only eat the real meat, skip the insides.

Just be sure you don't do the same thing with your Thanksgiving Turkey....
Oh, and please....refer to them as Giblets, not "guts"...
they can actually be very tasty when prepared right...especially the heart and neck.

No, you will not get sick! Everything that they give you in that little bag is edible! The heart tastes really good! Try it!
