The "Age of Dinosaurs" spans millions of years, so as a species, it seemed pretty successful. Mankind has a more recent history of 3 million to 6000 years depending on who you want to believe. If you buy into the existence of dinosaurs yet don't accept the existence of much younger but obviously hominid fossils, you'll have to live with this cognitive dissonance.
Personally, I like dinosaurs, and I bet god did, too. Apparently he made a lot of them for a real long time. Have you considered that mankind is the mistake instead?

God doesn't make mistakes.. Never..Dinosaurs just went away with the flood, no great mystery. They will be back later on.
