There is no polite way to answer this question, but I will give it a try. His anal glands need to be expressed. The gland tends to become impacted and is gross as it sounds. Squeezing the gland expresses a nasty smelling fluid, that is simple gross. I have my groomer and vet do this every time they are in either office.

Yuck

He probably needs his anal glands checked. Usually when they scoot their bottom on the ground, they are trying to do it themselves. The vet should be able to do it for you. It's pretty quick and a relatively painless procedure. If anal glands aren't surpressed they can get infected and compacted which can cause them to rupture and it will make a small hole under the spincter with the anal gland juices coming out which is very painful for the dog not to mention the smell.

There is a chance it could be worms but you should see the worms inside the dogs stool or if you look at his anus you will see small white rice like shapes. Those are worms.

Rubbing his butt on the floor is not a sign that a dog has worms, it's a sign that his anal glands need to be emptied. Every dog has small sacks just inside their anus that usually empty every time they stool, but some dogs are prone to them not emptying correctly and filling up. This can be due to breed, obesity, soft stools, or other factors. You do need to get him to a vet and get them emptied though, if you don't they can get impacted and/or infected... not fun! Good luck!

mups mom has the correct answer on this. Anal sacs need to be expressed. They accumulate small amount of stool. When full they become uncomfortable and can be very irritating. The vet will express by pressing on the outside edge of the anal area thus pressing out the excess stool gathered in the area. If not treated promptly it can cause severe problems including a tumor like swelling that can rupture.

Dogs usually do this, if they have a little bit of poop on their
bum. It's their way of trying to get it off. Sometimes though
they can have worms and that can be treated by going to
the pet store and speaking to someone there to get the
right product. Just make sure that you don't give the pup to
much of this, everything goes by their weight.

Depending on the type of breed, it can be a VERY common act if they are experiencing an anal gland problems. If you have been noticing any diarrhea or loose stools, take him to the vet for a simple visit to clean the glands and help your pup feel better.

Sounds like he needs worming tablets, this should be done regularly. It should tell you on the pack how often and what the dosage is for your breed / size of dog, you can buy them in all pet stores and pet isles in supermarkets.

Usually because it itches, but it has to have a rason to itch I would suggest worming him, typically you will find that to b the usual cause for those actions, when a dog has worms they cant quite scratch rubbing the butt when the worms crawl out tends to alleviate the sensations...

It could be from a couple of things. Your dog could have worms or fleas, or it could be that they ate something which has come out 'sticky' at the other end (disgusting I know) so they are trying to wipe away that sensation.

If it's a female, she could be coming on heat - mine wipes her bum everywhere around that time.
