The words "wrong region" came up on my TV screen. Is there anything I can do to get it to play? Are DVDs incompatible in foregn countries?

You "may" be able to make your DVD player "region free". You will have to search for "dvd unlock codes" for your player. If you're lucky, all it will take is punching in a few numbers from you remote. Cheapo DVD players seem to be easier to make region free than name brand ones.

That's correct, DVDs are "zoned". So, a DVD from Europe (or Isreal, etc) will not play in an American DVD player.
