Are these good dogs or just mutts. My wife is looking into one but I don't want a really bad mix. Do you think we should hold out for a purebreed if I want quality. I don't care if it is a hybrid, just as long as it is considered a quality dog with some value. I have had a bad experience with a mutt before (really dumb and aggressive).

Each individual dog has its own personality. Both Yorkies and Pekinese are great little dogs but they have their own health problems (as does any dog) and they aren't great for kids under 5 as they are delicate and can be snappy if they are socialized properly with well mannered children. Meet the dog your wife is interested in and see what the personality and temperment is like. A purebred dog doesn't mean it won't be mean just means it is purebred and nothing more than that. A mutt is yes a mutt but there are some great mutts out there. I know I have one :-) he is a basset/boxer/shephard mix . Health problems will also be based on if the dog is pushed in like a pekinese because they have breathing problems like pugs but I have seen a mix of those two breeds turn out to look pretty much like a Yorkie.

They are mutts. If you find a so called "breeder" let any guarantees they give you go in one ear and out the other. You can't guarantee anything with a mutt dog.

Also the vast majority of these are very poorly bred. The breeding them just throw two dogs together, wait for pups to hit the floor, and slap some 'magical' name on them. No healthy testing is done and they don't prove that the parents are actually of breeding quality.

If your wife wants a mutt, go to the shelter. There are plenty of dogs waiting for homes. Don't support the people breeding these mutts, if the money goes away they'll stop breeding them.

Or you can find a breed rescue or reputable breeder for a purebred.

they are not a breed. it is a cross of two breeds. Probably nothing wrong with the dog at all and could be jsut as healthy as the next dog, and just as good a companion. but you would be foolish if you pay hundreds of dollars for just that, a mutt.
if you are enquiring on what the mix might be like you will probably need to study each individual breed. the pup could pick up characteristics of either one.

Sounds to me like a designer dog. Which is a mutt! So if you want to pay big dollards for a designer dog go ahead. But it's still a mutt.
You can most likely get a pure breed dog for about the smae price as the designer dog. I'd think about that.

This breed mix was first studied by the Swiffer Corporation, which was interested in mass breeding of dogs which would make good dustmops when tied to a stick. The Yorkshire-Pekingese had all the qualities necessary for great dustmops........except that they had to be fed. Swiffer eventually ended their attempts with this breed mix and went on to develop a synthetic pad material that is widely sold today.

It is a mutt. Its a mixed breed and a mixed breed is called a mutt. If your gonna get a mutt, you should look for one at a shelter or rescue.

I know nothing about the breed, if it is even a recognized breed. I have a Yorkie and it is anything but dumb. He knows many commands and responds both by voice and sign language. Teaching him tricks is a breeze and is limited to my imagination only. Of course he sits, speaks, comes, stays, fetches, and rolls over. In addition he: bows, crawls, jumps, dances, locates a named object out of a row of ten. He holds a pea on his nose until told to eat it, at which time he tosses it gently in the air and catches it in his mouth.
