I started reading and every time that I came to a word that I didn't know, I would write it down along with a definition of the word. It helped me a lot. Also, I bought an American Heritage Dictionary compact edition which is an electronic dictionary and spellchecker that is no bigger than a calculator. That has really helped me. It was only like $8.00 or so.

Read news paper or comics. Its the best. Well i too face the same problem as yours. But what i do is i practice writting alot.
I even create a blog site to practice my writtings. And i begin it by writting a my life stories.

If you really want to improve it, you must not be afraid or taken aback with comments. Infact they are all good and you will learn better and faster. And i am still learning. Only that i got my fiance to vet through what i've wrote.

crossword puzzles are a good way it will also help if you get a crossword puzzle dictionary. I like to play word games like word racer, text twist, and bookworm which are all available at yahoo games. other ways to strengthen your vocabulary are games like scrabble and boggle. Play them with a dictionary and look up words as you play.reading books and looking up words you dont understand helps also because it provides a sentence to better understand how the word is used.

These other guys are right: READ! Read a lot!

Also, get out your dictionary and pick out five words you do not know. Memorize them. Do it again every day. Memorize 5 words. Just 5! Every day. In a year, you'll know 1,825 words you didn't know before, and that doesn't count other words you learn by accident.

Good luck!
