then why are they so rude and nasty to people who say that He does? What harm would it do them to keep their hatred and bitterness to themselves?

MAYBE THEY NEED GOD IN THEIR LIVES.

I don't give a rat's posterior if you say that God exists. You can shout it from mountain tops if it makes you happy. It's not going to make it any more true, but it's your right to delude yourself.

The only thing I'm going to object to is when you start telling me I have to live by your imaginary god's rules. Then I am going to get both rude and nasty. But if you'll keep your god to yourself, I'd be more than happy to keep my "hatred and bitterness" to myself.

I really don't think you should be bitter to anyone because of their religious views. You should just be accepting of that. Now, that doesn't mean you have to agree with them. A good christian shouldn't be comdeming people, for you are to love everyone.

Why do so many theists ask this very question followed by snide comments? Is there an irony quota I never heard about in my studies of religion?

They are generally moral, and lack the pure hate and hypocrisy that can only come from those who call themselves religious.

Quite a few of them are not sure about their disbelief, so they act out. Some of them are cling-ons, either to their disbelieving spouses or their atheist families. You only can muster up hate if you are not sure about yourself. We know that most believers in a higher power don't hate disbelievers. I said most, not all! Also, the atheist probably dislike the fact that so called believers use the name God and Jesus all the time when they like to get away with something that is not justified or even right. There are way to many gullible people out there who believe everything that comes out of the mouth of a guy or gal with the gift of gab, who uses the name of God or Jesus enough times!! What does that tell you? The answer is as clear as Crystal!!!

The problem is that religious people try to make laws based on religious belief to govern a society full of people of different faiths or no faith at all.
We athiests tend to get testy when a large group of people try to force us to live by their beliefs through law.
If we had a true seperation of church and state in this country, athiests would stop being so prickly. Until our Presidents stop saying they are guided by God and we have some openly athiest people elected to government, we're gonna be a bit grumpy toward religious folks.

I don't know whether anyone's manners or lack of manners have any bearing on whether or not there is a God.
