Read this answer by Michael:

I hope you do realize that 97% or more of scientists are atheists.
So when you say, "Go investigate it yourself," the answer is "We are."
And also, "your welcome" (you know, for silly things like the germ theory of disease, artificial limbs, the eradication of Polio, computers, etc...)

Not only does he claim that "97% or MORE" scientists are Atheists but that we should thank HIM and Atheists for the above said scientific discoveries and inventions.

I'd like to know where he got his statistics. Is there some poll of the religious convictions of all scientists in the world? Not.

Don't Atheists know there are many religious scientists. NOT ALL RELIGIOUS PEOPLE ARE CREATIONALISTS.

Gee, doesn't Minister's answer kind of put a kabosh on all of your statistics.

Well that's bullshit, obviously. Atheism is certainly more common among scientists than it is among the general population, but it doesn't approach 97% and credit for their work is not owed to all atheists. Similarly, the bullshit from that atheist shouldn't be attributed to all of us. Atheists don't take credit for all of science, one atheist does.

I don't know about the 97% part, but the claims that atheists invented germ theory, prosthetic limbs, polio vaccinations and computers are pretty much absurd. None of those things could be credited to one person, and most of the scientists who were majorly involved in germ theory were members of some organized religion. Louis Pasteur was a Catholic his entire life. I really doubt he did any real research here.

According to an article in Scientific American, a popular-science magazine, 90% of the general population surveyed professed a distinct belief in a personal god and afterlife, while only 40% of the scientists with a BS surveyed did so, and only 10% of those considered "eminent."[4]

It's not quite that high. The percentage of scientists that could be classified as Atheist or Agnostic is approximately 72%. Still good enough for me.

With regards to your comment on Ministers answer:

I have found that Wikipedia is a poor source for information relating to matters of this nature. It is possible for anybody to edit information, and you will notice that there are a number of supposed "facts" that are stated without references.

Yes 97 might be wrong. So that's one atheist that said something stupid compared to millions of Christians who think dinosaurs walked the earth with people. It is a fact that scientist compared to the population have more atheists percentage wise.

True. I've never head anyone claim to be a creationalist.

But 97% of the members of the National Academy of Science are non-theists, which is a group of the best scientists in the country in every field.

I completely agree. what a lot of creationists don't realize is that Charles Darwin, one of many influential scientists, was actually a religious man. He was a believer until his research suggested otherwise.

A poll regarding this matter is located here: http://kspark.kaist.ac.kr/Jesus/Intelligence%20&%20religion.htm

Not saying that everything that that person said to you was 100% true, but he didn't make up his stats.

BELIEF IN PERSONAL GOD (1998 poll among scientists)

Personal belief - 7.0%
Personal disbelief - 72.2%
Doubt or agnosticism - 20.8%

"Disbelief in God and immortality among NAS biological scientists was 65.2% and 69.0%, respectively, and among NAS physical scientists it was 79.0% and 76.3%. Most of the rest were agnostics on both issues, with few believers. We found the highest percentage of belief among NAS mathematicians (14.3% in God, 15.0% in immortality). Biological scientists had the lowest rate of belief (5.5% in God, 7.1% in immortality), with physicists and astronomers slightly higher (7.5% in God, 7.5% in immortality)."
