Most places you do not need a degree to become a police officer. In some places, preference is given to people with degrees and in others they are starting to require associate's degrees. You also need to be 21 to become an officer and must have a clean criminal record.

Clean criminal record (a small charge will not disqualify you, like public intox...but there better not be a pattern of the behavior)...but above and beyond that...
no drug use since the age of 21, only limited experimentation before age 21
no pattern of behavior that constitutes a disregard for the law - for instance, multiple seat belt law violations in a 5 year period.
You should have some college credit, because the hiring process is comptetative, and you will be up against college grads.
You need to be able to run 1.5 miles in 14:30, you need to be able to do 20 push ups in 1 min, and 40 sit ups in 1 min.
That ought to about cover it. Notice that I left off common sense and decency - they are not requirements

min requirements are of course high school education, passing an entrance written exam, a physcial and a agility test.
There will be a mental test along with a complete background search.
all officers have to do a police academy after they are hired.
Now in real life, in the larger better departments you will most likely need a college degree or military background is also helpful.
