Congrats on your salvation! I'm glad to hear that God's leading you back to the flock... if you aren't already, get yourself into a Bible-believing, Bible-preaching church! Christian fellowship is the surest way to stay encouraged in the Lord.

I recommend the KJV... it's the original English translation and it really speaks to your heart. Some people say it's harder to read, but experts say it's a 6th grade reading level. I love it and I can't stand the way the other versions are written... they read just like any other book!

I also have scriptural reasons for believing that the KJV is the infallible word of God, but I won't get in to that... if you'd like to discuss, please contact me because I'd love to talk about it with you!

I have a Scofield study Bible and I love it. They're a little more expensive, but they have SO much information packed in there, so you learn more about the context of the scriptures. If you like details and historical background information, you'll like the new Scofields.

Any KJV Bible is a great place to start!

There are several good ones that are modern and accurate:

--Jerusalem Bible--Uses the name of God, Yahweh(Hebrew form) throughout the old testament!

--New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures by Jehovah's Witnesses!--The name of God Jehovah appears over 7,000 times in the entire Bible!--It is available to view in entirety off their official web site at
www.watchtower.org

--The Amplified Bible--does what its name
implies, it carefully expands the meaning usually in ( ) Example:

Gen.2:9"And out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight or to be desired--good (suitable, pleasant) for food; the tree of life also in the center of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of [the difference between] good and evil and blessing and calamity".(D)

--There is also Bible Gateway on line where you view some 15 translations & versions, (in many languages) some good commentaries, and study--research capabilities , which allows you to see how they read to your liking. www.biblegateway.com

--I am not familiar with the Mac. A , but be aware that there are some that are paraphrased, meaning ideas are inserted by the writers, rather than being careful of translating correctly.

--A word of caution, when you are using a "study" Bible the tendancy of the writers is that they put their OWN interpretation into it, thus you do not have a translation , but a paraphrasied even though it claims to be a translation!
--And it might be said, can bias one to different teachings from what is taught in the Bible itself!

I have several Bibles, and I don't use just one but particurlay I study out of King James Version, because it has a beautiful way with words and a strong message, and then I read The Message Remix, to have a stronger understanding. Each person is different, so I would just check out several versions and see what works best for YOU.

I am glad that you want to come back to God that is good news.

God Bless You

MacArthur is awesome. That would be a good first choice.
I would also recommend the Chuck Smith study Bible as well.
Start in the Gospel and get reaquainted with your Lord.

Welcome back brother Bri.

MacArthur is very solid and a wee bit strong for an infant in Christ. He is good, but he does not "sugar coat" the rough stuff.
You may try a NIV Study Bible (NIV only) or a Ryrie Study Bible (NIV, NASB, KJV).

The NIV is the most popular and is good.

You should get the "New King James Version". It is easier to understand than the first translation but still reads the same. Best wishes. Start by reading the gospels first then try the rest of the bible. Most pastors say to start with John.

Congradulations to you! The best bible version that I recommend to you is the NIV. You can find it here at amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/NIV-Study-Bible-Kenneth-Barker/dp/0310926033/ref=sr_1_10/103-6270141-6817458?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1173408703&sr=1-10

I'm not familiar with the MacArthur. But if you can get it in the NIV or NKJV those two would be the easiest version's to understand. And you want to start reading the gospels. Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

I am not a big fan of John MacArthur (as you can imagine - I'm Catholic - although I played golf with him once and he's a nice guy!)

Some of the Life Application Bibles are good. Just don't get the NIV one.
