If you are joining the Army National Guard, you'll go to active duty Army training and will train with active, reserve and national guardsmen in basic training. Click the link below to see what basic training entitles.

After basic training, you'll go to Advanced Individual Training, which is your training for your chosen career field (i.e., military police, infantry, medical admin, etc.)

You would go through the same basic as the active duty and the reserve components. You'll be training side by side with them.

Basic training can be a lot of fun, it just depends on the mind set you have going in. Its all a game, some time a bit strenuouse, but overall its an expierence you'll never forget and never have gotten any where else.

Prepare yourself for some physical training, running, push ups and sit ups. The physical part is usually what screens out the majority of people from the military. So I highly suggest if you plan on joining the national guard prepare yourself physically for basic training. Practice running 2 miles within 19 minutes (female) 16 minutes (male), doing 30 push ups (female) 70 push ups (male) and doing atleast 50 situps. These are not the requirements, but if you can do these before basic training, PT ( Physical Training) will not be so difficult for you. There are different requirements for males and females on the physical training tests (atleast from what I remember when I went in in 2002, but times may have changed since then.

Good luck on what ever you decide to do.

Waking up at 4:00 am, running, push ups, buffing floors, spit shining shoes, polishing urinals, you know, the regular stuff.
