there's no true way to know without seeing pedigrees but if we saw a pic I'm sure we could take a pretty good guess.

AKC doesn't recognize APBT's, for the record.

It's VERY rare to come across a TRUE APBT these days with all of the irresponsible "breeders" (BYB's actually) mixing and ruining the breed. I highly doubt it, and if so it would be microchipped or tatooed. Reputable breeders are very specific about where their Pit Bull's end up since so many low lives give them a bad rep.

Be sure to get it neutered! If you need any help feel free to contact me or join the forums below.

Pit bulls are not recognized as a breed by the AKC. So, you can call it a pit if you want, but that is not a real breed.

Overall, it would be hard to tell without a pic.

There's no way to tell if he's a full blooded pit bull just by looking at him. The only way to tell is by knowing who his parents are, and they would have to have AKC papers to prove it. Without the papers, he might as well be a mutt (value-wise), so if you're thinking about keeping him, you should really get him fixed. Good luck with everything.

There are so many mixes out there, especially pit and mastiff crosses that you will probably never know. Who cares anyways. You obviously don't have papers for him, so the breed doesnt matter. If you love him and he is a wonderful dog, dont be worried about what he is.

Nope! But a vet. could tell you. If I were you I'd take it to an animal shelter. I would not keep it. These dogs are aggressive animals. They can love you for many years and then turn around and kill you. Never keep one of these dogs around small children. I read that a lot of cities are planning an ordinance to ban them from city limits. Why would you want a dog of this type? Get a collie or some other mild mannered dog.

There is no true way to tell but a vet may be able to give you a better idea.

I'd love too...but how? Also if you found him, shouldn't you be investigating where he may have come from? This isn't Finders Keepers.
