Well mine hurt in my back on the left side like someone was sticking a knife in my back over and over again.Just hit me all of a sudden so I went to the ER and was put in the hospital started running fevers and the pain was still unbearable even after pain meds which did nothing for me but made me sick and was throwing up every where.Had test run to confirm stone and went to another doctor that crushed the little bastard with sonic waves. That was an out patient service that costed a whole lot of money.Thank goodness I had health coverage to pay for all of this which ended up costing around twenty something thousand dollars.

I had one a few years ago... The pain started just like that, I was ok and 1/2 hour later it got really worst. Feels like when you have really bad contractions when the stone is passing and I had like a burning feeling on my left side, just like something had burst inside. Trust me I had two kids, I know. I had to rush to the hospital where they gave me morphine to stop the pain. The pain started in my lower back then left side and front going down my leg. I couldn't sit, laydown or stand up. I don't remember having pain at all before that during the day. Once the pain starts it doesn't stop, just gets worst. I have heard about man who have had kidney stones and the say the same thing, the pain is really bad too.

Kidney stones typically leave the body by passage in the urine stream, and many stones are formed and passed without causing symptoms. If stones grow to sufficient size before passage--on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters--they can cause obstruction of the ureter. The resulting distention with urine can cause severe episodic pain, most commonly felt in the flank, lower abdomen and groin (a condition called renal colic)
