Give a high quality food. It costs more money but it is better for your dog. Go to petsmart or any petstore and they will be glad to let you know what foods are best for your dog. Forget the ones you buy in the supermarket its junk. The pet store may have some kind of cream you can use for the exzema. But to really get rid of it you need to give a high quality dog food.

My staffy gets exzema in the summer.Pick a pot full of blackberry leaves if u can find some, cover them with water and boil for about five minutes.Strain the water and add a small bottle of witchhazel about 100 mls(available at health food stores)store in a spray bottle and just spray on your dogs skin and let dry naturally. It works wonders and is not expensive to make.I also keep it in the fridge in the hot weather as it seems to also have a cooling effect.

Did your vet diagnose your dog with exzema? I would check with a vet first as it could be allergies and something as simple as a change of food might help. The vet might want to do a skin scraping and rule out mange. Good luck!

You may want to use oatmeal bath. They have a great one at www.petnutritionproducts.com

You may also want to change your dogs diet to a high quality food (even home cooked or raw) and add fish body oil to their diet (they also need a small amount of vitamin E to absorb the Omega 3's... but dogs will only benefit from d-alpha tocepherols, not the dl)

If you need any help feel free to come join our pet forums at www.IHeartPaws.com/forums and we'd be more than happy to help you out. There is a vet on site too who you can ask for advice.

Have you seen your vet about this problem yet?

Hi both our dogs have this problem - we tried expensive shampoos to everything the vet perscribbed - and the best thing that works is mixing vegetable oil in with thier food! They have Ruff and Ready - which is a dry feed but we soak it in water and oil! Its great - try it! We found that alot of people do this from reading it in a shooting mag - working dogs get wet exma often and this is what the readers found worked best and so did we!

My dog has the same problem, his skin gets very dry and bothers him constantly, honestly we didn't have to spend that much to find a solution. My vet reccomended that we buy some hydrocortizone for him, periodically rub the cream onto the areas that need to be healed, it made a world of a difference.

Might be a food allergy. Had dachshund that was allergic to her food, took her to vet, he recommended different food. Changed food, no more eczema.

Used medicated shampoo for baths, too. Until the allergens were out of her system.

First you need to find out if it is eczema, take it to the vet for a skin scraping. It could be parasites.

If it is eczema, you need to find what is causing the allergy. it could be food, but in most cases I've found it to be soaps and cleaning products used on the floor or carpet.

There is an excellent cream online called Dermacton. I just got it for my dog because she has dry skin but it's used for other things too. It would be good for your problem too.
