I recently went to Atlantic City and stayed at the Econo Lodge for $40/night. We took a bus from New York City to Bally's and Bally's reimbursed us $22 off our bus fare. There are also discount buffets, mc donalds, pizza shops, chinese food, and dellis that allow affordable eating.

I have never been to foxwoods, so I don't know what is there or how to structure a trip. I can get an inexpensive bus from NYC I know that, but as far as eating and sleeping, I don't know how to do that on a budget. I don't have a car.

With a car, I know I can always stay on the CA/NV state line for $20/night and a 3 star hotel, so I know there are similar secrets to the vegas area.

If anyone can let me know any tips or tricks to living 'lightly' while in CT at foxwoods or Mohegan Sun let me know.

Thanks!

Great story about the girl who complained and got a comped room. I'm not looking to scam anyone--I just want to do it on a tight budget--we aren't big gamblers but enjoy the casino environment.

Foxwoods is notoriously tight with the comps, and rooms there are often fairly expensive. When I've needed to stay there for a longer period of time, ive stayed a few miles down the road at the hilltop inn. While it's no $20/night, it's the closest place to the woods where you dont spend an arm and a leg.

They have a shuttle between the Hilltop and Foxwoods running every 30 minutes or so, and it's about a 8 minute ride. Also, as a bonus, Rosie's Diner across the street from the Hilltop serves cheap and delicious food 24 hours a day.

The rooms arent much to write home about, nd the amenities are sub-par. But, it's reasonably clean, and you can get intrnet special rates all the time at www.hilltopinnandsuites.com/

Your best bet is to look for a ' bus package' trip from NYC. One that includes a food comp or a buffet. They usually throw in some scratch tickets , 'match play' for table games or some other promo to get you to play. They offer day or night trips and the best you can probably do is sleep on the bus on your return back. Both Indian casinos are otherwise very cheap. I live an hour away and go about once a week. There is no cheap lodging in the vicinity. I prefer Atlantic City; you are really treated better there and this is no lie. Last week my daughter won $ 50,000 at Mohegan. She asked for a room so she could stay and play longer. They told her sorry; they were full. She got very nasty with them so they finally gave her a room ... the next day they took the price of the room off her comp points ... about $179.00!!!This would never happen in AC or Vegas ... quite the opposite in fact. But if you want the experience of going there ; (cause they are huge and exciting) I recommend you check out package deals for a 'day' trip or an 'overnight' trip. And yes you can also find inexpensive food outlets there to buy inexpensive food . On the Foxwoods premises there is a motel w/shuttle that costs about $79. a night on a weekday or if there's nothing big going on. Thats about the best you can do if you choose to stay overnight.

Without a car it will be tough. With a car you can stay in New London about 10 minutes away for about 70 bucks a night.

as far as food, make sure you get a wampum rewards card ,,, the pts you earn can be used for food ... and they have an inexpensive food court and your comp can be used there as well

I work in a casino which has a hotel and I heard the front desk complaining about a guest who said the 'front desk was very rude to her' and she asked to speak to a manager which comp'ed her room, so she got a free stay. But don't betch about a lot of things b/c it got around that she was complaining about the room service too and word got around that she was freeloadin, so best wishes and good luck. =)
