I tend to eat a large snack when I get home from school. I have a hard time weaning myself off. Like I keep eating and eating and I don't know what is a good size for an afternoon snack. I can't seem to know what is enough and when I'm full. Help?

Make sure to make your snack last at least 20 minutes, either do something while you're eating or drink alot of water or tea while you eat. Pre-measure how much you're going to eat (an appropriate serving size) and stick to it. Also, eat something with fiber and/or protein like a lentil soup or hummus and veggies. Definately nothing sugar based or carb based, they don't keep you feeling full. And, if that doesn't help walk away from the kitchen and do some homework or take a walk.

You can curb your appetite by adding fiber to your diet. Eat lots of raw carrots, cucumbers, celery sticks, lightly steamed broccoli, radishes and other raw veggies. You can also eat them pickled for a change. Also, fresh and dried fruit but be careful with the dried fruit because its easy to overdo on those. Go light on grapes and bananas because they contain more fat than most fruit.
Drink water or tea along with your dinner, not afterwards. If you must have chips don't eat more than a handful and always keep the veggies handy. You can have these cut up in advance so you will be able to reach for them when hungry. Put a picture of a slender girl on your fridge. That has helped some people. Good luck!

You want to "curb" your appetite.
Do you have breakfast in the morning? Have a bowl of cereal and milk at least.
Have some lunch too
Your appetite should not be so crazy come after school.
Drink a glass of ice cubed water before eating. Don't rush drinking it either. And no, coke is not the same thing. Coke is fattening with all the sugar and will make you more hyper with the caffiene.
And eat an apple, will do you till supper.

I think you mean "curb" your appetite. What I suggest is that you eat both breakfast and lunch consistantly at a regular, set time.
If you really are hungry when you get home and must eat something, don't eat something out of the bag or container. Always dole out a reasonably small amount in a dish or bowl and once you finish don't go back for more.
It's more of a self-control issue. Just fight it.

There are a few common suggestions you can try to curb your appetite:

- drink plenty of water, sometimes hunger is really about thirst
- choose healthier snacks for your afterschool nosh, whole grain bread, crackers, fruits and/or veggies. Stay away from fast food, saturated fats, and sweets.
-be careful of your portion size, make a modest snack, drink water, wait 20 minutes before going back for more.

I think you mean curb your appetite from what you say rather than curve, which implies changing the substance you intake. You should lower the food intake and change it to more small sized snacks that are wholesome and low in fat. Try a salad or cold vegetables, like carrots or celery.

Water!! Lots of water! A lot of times we mistake our 'hunger' feeling for plain just being dehydrated.

What I do is keep a sports bottle full of water on me at all times and it reallly does help fill the void.

Of course I do go snack here and there, but water truly does help. Oh yeah and monitor what you're eating. Sometimes food with too much sugar or salt will leave you feeling "hungry" but really just thirsty.

Good luck and God bless!

Try the rating your hunger thing.

Its where you take a moment, listen to your body and think about how hungry you are between 1-10, 1 being you are absolutely on the brink of passing out starving, 10 being you couldn't eat another morsel. For me if I'm any higher than a 4 I don't eat, simple as that I clearly don't need it

Eat a rolled up piece of lunchmeat.. or hard boiled eggs... or a spoon of peanut butter.. stick to proteins.. you can snack but cut out the junk food.. No dinner size meals for snacks... if you do eat alot after school, just don't eat much for dinner
