I have a very nice trophy mount that was left to me by my father after he passed away. This trophy fish was his pride and joy and I'm just wondering how I can take care of it and keep it in the best possible shape. The mount consists of the real skin and fins from the fish but the head was molded from foam. Any tips on cleaning the dust off and keeping this mount in great shape? Thanks in advance!

A good taxidermy that gives your fish a nice coat of spray enamel will last for many years. I wipe my fish off with a wet rag after dusting them off with a feather duster.

I have thee mounts of 14lb Largemouths in my living room and they still look wonderful and it was done 8 years ago.

If your fish was not done properly and starts to fade, you can have the fish repainted and enameled again, but they charge the same price as if it was a new fish brought in and this is why I try to keep my fish dust free and not in direct sunlight.

Don't ever touch it with your hands. Dust it with a feather type brush when needed and nothing else unless it starts to crack, and then give it a couple light coats of clear polyurethane.. I have a mount of a Brook Trout that was tied for the Virginia State record when I had it weighed and my father paid to have mounted because I didn't have the money.
My dad died in 2001. I want to keep the fish forever...

Skin mounts should be carefully handled as they are so very easy to damage. Only use a feather duster and a light touch to remove dust. A badly damaged mount can usually be reconstucted or repaired by a qualified taxidermist.
This guy is really good at fixing old skin mounts.
