How do I relieve my head of searing sinus pains? I have that "stopped-up" feeling in my nose and my head hurts a lot from the pressure. Does anybody have any remedies to help "un-stop" my nose?

Try a saline nasal RINSE (not a spray) A full warm water saline rinse goes in one nostril and out the other. It draws out all the gunk and shrinks the tissue (like swimming in the ocean). I've been doing it at work too.

The buffered salt doesn't 'sting' as much as plain salt water. You can use a new method like Nasopure, or the vintage, Netipot. The special bottle and salt is about $20.

You can do this a often as you like with no bad side effects.

You don’t need a prescription for this therapy. So if you live in a state like mine, they’ve pretty much “outlawed” sudafed medicine. Drug-free is really the way to go on a frequent-use basis. (I put in a link for “what” and “how” – there’s also some good info on wiki)

How desperate are you to clear this up and feel better.
There is this thing called a netti pot. You don't have to buy it if you don't want. What it does is that you pour salt water thru one nostril and it comes out the other. I use reg. table salt but sea salt is stronger. make a solution of warm water and salt. Start with I guess 1/4 tsp. salt to 8 oz of water. I use a water bottle, 20 oz. size and put a pull up lid on it. I put 8 oz of salt water in it. Tip your head to the side and pour it slowly thru the nostril. You will swear that you will drown. but you don't. If you close off the back of your nose like when you are going underwater then you will be fine. It takes a while to get used to it. Anyway, pour it thru the nostril. It will go up into your sinus cavity and come out the other side. Do it over the sink. It gets gross. The mucus and junk start pouring out the other side of the nose. Then make the mixture again and do it starting with the other nostril. Again it will go up into your sinuses. This is a wash for your sinuses. The salt kills the bacteria and stuff. Within 15 minutes you should be able to breathe pretty much. When I'm done I usually blow my nose cause all the mucous junk is hanging out. Then I put a little vaseline in my nose just so it's not too dry. If you do this twice a day it will get rid of your cold in no time. I am terribly prone to sinus and ear infections. My friend told me about this and I haven't had one since. It's gross. Yes. I'll admit it. But the salt costs next to nothing. And like I said, if you use a water bottle or shampoo bottle or whatever just to put it into your nose then it costs nothing. I used to use a nasal aspirator like they use for babies but then I found out that I wasn't putting enough water up there so I had to go larger. Click on this link and it will show you a pic of how to use it. Scroll down to the bottom of the article. It's gross. But the feeling later will make you swear by it. Hope you feel better.

You probably need to find a sinus medication to really make a difference. In the short term, warm compresses can help. A damp, very warm cloth applied to the forehead and bridge of the nose can help relieve the pressure.

I been about to ie fr. that for weeks too. I found that taking a very hot steaming cloth and squirting a dab of menthol cream in the center and folding the cloth and putting it over my nostrils will open me up. U can have a big pot of boiling water and put some vicks or menthol in the pot and put a towel over u head while leaning over the steam will help u. Massage gently under ur eyes upwards and get some sinus pills or allergy and sinus combined pills for the headaches.

Yes I do.,...it combines the use of heat and cold. Put a wet wash cloth into the microwave or very hot water and put this over your sinuses (be careful not to burn yourelf) and hold it there till it begins to cool...repeat this over a period of 10-15 minutes. THen take a ice bag or ice crushed in a wash cloth and do the same thing...place over sinuses and keep alternating this. This will eventually allow your sinuses to open and unblock and the pain will be greaty diminished.

Try some Claritin-D or Alavert-D (12 or 24 hour formulation) with the Pseudoephedrine 120mg (nasal decongestant) & Loratidine 5mg (antihistamine) they are available without a prescription & work very well until you can get to a doctor to see what they suggest.
