Marvel has had a few major characters come back from the dead. Pheonix, Hellcat, and few others. So it is entirely possible it will be like Superman's death a decade ago.

On the other hand, Marvel is also known for rewriting their mythos (primarily in the Ultimates line) and has had other Captain Americas besides Steve Rogers (who took up the mantle after Rogers was believed dead, but was only put on ice-so to speak).

Marvel is not above giving the powers/weapons/whatever to a new character and continuing the saga of the character (anybody remember Beta Ray Bill?). In fact, I recall a recent story where a black man in the 1940's was the original test subject of the Super Soldier Serum. That soldier died (as I recall) and Steve Rogers was chosen to be the "official" Captain America...it wasn't until just recently that Rogers became aware of this fact.

Captain America has been a standing character made fifty years ago and is a Marvel favorite so I doubt Marvel would make the foolish mistake of killing off an icon permanantly. But on the other side of the coin, Captain America can be replaced by a new age of CA. I know the concept of replacing Steve Rogers seems somewhat of a betrayal to any die hard fan but this allows for a new side of the star spangled super hero to show.

He was killed off. The question should be will he stay dead ?. That answer is no...They will relaunch him in a new Captain America book when they go to release The Captain America movie in the next year or so.

He was shown being shot like 4 times in issue #25, and he's currently in Shield custody. The writers are assuring people that he is totally dead, but there have been hints that he's still alive and that Shield is trying to revive him. Either way, he's a comic book character that's been making money for Marvel for almost 70 years. He'll be back soon enough.

Steve Rogers and Cap will be back. They might or might not be the same person anymore, but they will be back.

Anyway it would be good to see Steve as a whole person with real conflicts in his life and still using his abilities to kick butt. His character is kind of lame and flat. I'm not saying he has to be a jerk like Bruce Wayne, but batman is always interesting
