Photoshop 7 install error 106

The error "ComponentMoveData...Error Number: -106..." indicates that the installer cannot decompress a file. This can happen if the CD-ROM is dirty or damaged, if hard disk space is insufficient, or if the installer conflicts with an application or device driver.

You could try copying the contents of your CD-ROM (or the essential folders) to your HDD or a network drive. You will soon find out of there is dirt or damage on the CD, and if not, you can easily then install from your HDD or network drive.

I'm not sure what that error is nor how to help without more info on your system & when exactly the error occurs. You could have a conflict with the previous version or the serial number you're entering. You might try completely uninstalling 5.5 and then installing 7. You will just need to put your 5.5 disk in to "prove" the upgrade rather than have to have it installed.

Have you tried contacting Adobe? I checked for that error on their support pages but didn't get any results. You might have a look and see if you can find something useful or you can post your question in their forum. http://www.adobe.com/support/

Good luck.

(1) You may have to uninstall Photoshop 5.5 from your system first. If there is a problem later, you can reinstall photoshop 5.5 from your software discs (hope you have the ID/Key etc).
(2) Once the earlier version has been uninstalled, you can install the newer version. However, installation may depend on your operating system - the newer software may be incompatible with an older operating system. (check for system requirements on box / manual etc)

(3) to unistall a program, go into the contol panel and click on install/uninstall programs - find the older version of photoshop and uninstall (make sure you have the discs / Key & Id for this older version before you delete - in case you want to reinstall)
