A kidney shot is a punch directed to either the left or right side mid-lower back about 4-6 inches either side of the spine, it is an illegal blow

A liver shot on the other hand is a very legal body blow directed just forward of either side of the body and about 3-5 inches below the floating ribs. A well directed punch to the liver will almost always put an opponent down and the pain is awful. It hits you about a second or so after the blow and just takes your legs away.

A kidney shot is a punch to the lower back where the kidneys are located. I think a liver punch is to the lower stomach or to the side.

The liver shot is a well delivered left hook to the your opponents right side of the body just below the floating ribs, and quite devastating to the victim. Totally legal blow.
Kidney shots however are a total foul of which I person gives shots to the side/lower back area. Totally out of the legal target area for boxing.

Two very painful body shots.

A left hook to the body usally finds some of the liver.
Kidney punches are illegal, or at least should be.

Believe me, I you ever took a solid body punch, you realize why Oscar DeLaHoya didn't get up from Bernard Hopkins's body shot in their fight. "It hurts" just doesn't describe the pain.
