No. The reason is that we lack the resources. IE, we currently are in debt to China approximately 26 billion American dollars.

It would be possible for the U.S to build an empire, but not dominate the globe. The US could easily conquer North and South America and Most of Europe if they invaded through Portugal and took Spain, France, Italy etc. but Britain and Germany would be tough. The U.S. would eventually, though, overpower England and Germany through possible nuclear force. Russia and China would be problems though because if the U.S. ever expanded their borders near them, there would be trouble. So no, the U.S couldn't completely conquer the world unless somehow we could form a complete alliance with China or possibly Russia, which would NEVER happen.

A real empire where we rule all? NO F'n WAY! Doing this would require an economic alliance that we could not currently pull off. Sure, we could probably "convince" our allies (that we should really own cuz we saved or beat their asses) but chinka and/or the asian powers are a force to be reckoned with. For Fcuk's sake, we couldn't even conquer Iraq militarily (granted the restricitions were BS). If we had unrestricted nuclear options, we may defeat chinka but would draw the rest of the world against us. Our forces are the best but the days of one supreme ruler are so far past that if you see it again it will entail 666 on your forehead.

No. having the most ICBM weapons is one thing but to occupy a foreign country requires a vast logistic capability particularly in regards to oil.
America is not self sufficient in oil and all it would take is for a number of countries to stop the flow of petroleum to America and its military would come to a grinding halt within a few months and without sufficient fuels the domestic economy could not function.
This scenario does not apply only to America, it applies to every nation in the world

We are too diverse a nation to unify behind the idea, and no matter how strong the leadership is, they listen to us and tremble when we threaten to dethrone them. After all, we cast off a King!

Some of us believe in an ideological hegemony; a world full of independent sovereign nations similar to us (with cultural differences). It is said that there have been no wars between any two countries that contain MacDonald's' :)

Can 300 million people rule 6.5 billion? That a ratio of 20 to 1 not in our favor. I don't think it would be possible. And please don't say Britain did it, that was against mainly primative societies. They ruled very few western european subjects against their will.

in some ways we already do. but if we were to try through our military we would not succeed. there are many truces and allegiances that would form up to prevent that from happening. the world is set up so that no one nation can rule it totally.

The US with is superiority in weaponry and economy can rule the world and it is possible. Other nations can oppose but will negotiate due to inferiority of their military arms.
