I have been told that I have to send her copies of all pages of my passport....however my passport has expired.Is it necessary for me to renew it right away or can I send copy of expierd passport?

Are you a US Citizen or Permanent resident or some one on a visa? If its the last case you have to send both your expired passport and current passport just as supporting documents that you are actually in the US. For that matter the same applies even though you are a citizen or Perm resident. Its just to make sure that the applicant does have people in US who are inviting them.

I would recommend sending a copy of an up-to-date passport.

Sounds like the u.s. embassy wants to see if you have gone to visit her, this way they could deny her visa and or to verify if your a U.S. Citizen that might apply for her immigration status once your mother is in the U.S. Your passport should not even come into the picture if it's your mother applying and not you.
